Pledge

The Bay of Fundy, celebrated as one of the world’s natural wonders, is a living landscape of extraordinary tides, thriving ecosystems, and deep cultural roots. Its coastlines, tidal wetlands, and forested valleys form part of the Wabanaki Forest - recognized as the most biodiverse forest type in North America. Anchored by two UNESCO designations - the Fundy Biosphere Region and Stonehammer Global Geopark - this area stands as a symbol of balance between people and nature, where communities work together to protect and celebrate truly unique natural and cultural heritage.

FOR THE LOVE OF

Pledge

EXPLORE beaches, forests, & rivers

I pledge to explore Fundy’s natural places with care, leaving no trace and respecting the delicate balance of coast, forest, and tide. I will reduce my impact, tread lightly on trails, and preserve the natural and historic elements I encounter along the way. I will travel with intention, carrying out what I bring in, respecting fire safety, and letting nature remain undisturbed.

CELEBRATE local culture, traditions, & heritage

I pledge to celebrate the rich cultural fabric of this region, shaped by Indigenous Peoples, Acadian settlers, and generations of those who have called it home. I will engage with local communities with openness and respect, appreciating the traditions, stories, and creative expressions that reflect this place.

OBSERVE wildlife & natural habitats

I pledge to observe wildlife from a distance, to never feed animals or disrupt their habitat, and to ensure my presence does not interfere with the natural rhythms of the land. I will protect the wellbeing of all living things by storing food properly and keeping pets under control.

PROTECT water

I pledge to protect the lifeblood of Fundy, its waters. I will use water wisely, conserve where I can, and prevent pollution by keeping soaps, waste, and litter out of streams and tides. I will support community initiatives that safeguard clean drinking water and healthy habitats, remembering that every drop connects forests, communities, and the Bay itself.

SUPPORT LOCAL eat, stay, & shop

I pledge to support local businesses, accommodations, and artisans who sustain the character and economy of this region. I will choose experiences and purchases that are rooted in the community and reflect the unique identity of New Brunswick, especially those marked “Made in NB.”

SHARE trails, roads, & parking areas

I pledge to share space responsibly—whether on trails, roads, or viewpoints—by being courteous, quiet, and conscious of others. I will walk, bike, or carpool when possible and be thoughtful about where and when I travel to reduce crowding.

PLAN AHEAD for a safe & meaningful visit

I pledge to plan ahead, stay safe, and be prepared for Fundy’s changing weather, shifting tides, and rugged terrain. I will head local guidance, follow posted signs, and travel with awareness and care.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Fundy Partnership acknowledges that the Fundy Coast and Fundy Foothills region is within Mi’gma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Peskotomuhkati people. This land is governed by the Peace and Friendship Treaties, which continue to guide relationships based on respect, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

We are grateful for the opportunity to live, learn, and work in this place. We recognize that our presence here carries responsibilities, and we commit to ongoing learning about Mi’gma’ki—its histories, cultures, and living relationships to the land and waters. We strive to carry this learning forward in our work, in ways that honour the Mi’kmaq and support respectful relationships now and into the future.
