The Route
Taste a wave of flavours as deliciously diverse as the region's views and vistas. From sumptuous seafood to savoury home-cooking; from cultural cuisine to refreshing craft brews, artisanal eats and treats, this trail will keep foodie explorers coming back for more.
Set your own pace along this coastal route — from Hillsborough down through Hopewell Hill, Riverside-Albert, Waterside, and Alma, out to St. Martins, and inland to Sussex and Knightville — and follow your appetite from one table to the next.

Stop 1: Thai at Hillsborough

A flavourful detour right on Hillsborough's Main Street, serving up authentic Thai dishes with plenty of spice to choose from — a lively start to the trail before the coast road begins.
Stop 2: Cinnamon Soul Café
2831 Main St, Hillsborough, NB E4H 2X6
A bright, art-filled café known well beyond Hillsborough for its homemade cinnamon buns, hearty seafood chowder, and artisanal entrees made with locally-sourced ingredients. Settle in on the sunny deck for breakfast or lunch, and don't leave without a treat for the road.
Visitor Tip: Pop across the street to browse the studio and gift shop at Pottery Buff, housed in a historic 1874 home.
Stop 3: Broadleaf Ranch Family Restaurant
5526 NB-114, Hopewell Hill, NB E4H 3N5
Part of a working guest ranch just up the road from Hopewell Rocks, this licensed family restaurant serves generous, home-style meals made from family recipes — right down to "Grammy's" jams. Expect a warm welcome, and maybe a horse or two grazing nearby.
Visitor Tip: While you’re there, book a trail ride and drink in the big sky beauty of the saltwater marshes.
Stop 4: Maplegrove Inn
5 Maple St., Riverside-Albert NB E4H 3X1
A heritage 1854 inn tucked between Hopewell Rocks, Cape Enrage, and Fundy National Park, Maplegrove is known for its elegant High Tea events — think fresh scones, clotted cream, and homemade sausage rolls in a sunlit tea room.
Visitor Tip: Afternoon Tea is by reservation only, so remember to go online and book ahead.
Stop 5: Waterside Winery
2008 Route 915, Waterside, NB E4H 4M9
Albert County's first cottage winery, this award-winning family business turns Fundy-grown blueberries, rhubarb, and cranberries into distinctive fruit wines. Enjoy a complimentary tasting overlooking the Bay before choosing a bottle to bring along for the rest of the trip.
Visitor Tip: Take the scenic drive along Route 915 for breathtaking coastal views… and don’t forget to stop by the Shepody Bay Shorebird Reserve on Mary’s Point Road.
Stop 6: Octopus' Garden Café & Bistro
8561 Main St, Alma, NB E4H 1N1
Set in the heart of Alma, this charming bistro turns out handmade fresh pasta and local seafood alongside artisanal sandwiches and baked goods. Grab a table and settle in — it's worth lingering over.
Visitor Tip: Take time to notice the local art decorating the space…including a community-created mosaic! Then wander down the street to the Karla Dawe Art Gallery for more Fundy-inspired art.
Stop 7: Holy Whale Brewery
8576 Main St, Alma, NB E4H 1N4
Housed inside a beautifully repurposed 19th-century church, just steps from the Bay of Fundy, this charismatic micro-brewery also serves up home-roasted Buddha Bear coffee.
Visitor Tip: Enjoy a refreshing craft beer or coffee on the dog-friendly patio…then stick around for some live Celtic music in the evening!
Stop 8: Tipsy Tails Restaurant
8607 Main St, Alma, NB E4H 1B4
A local favourite for fresh, straight-off-the-dock seafood, with a covered, dog-friendly patio looking out over Alma's working harbour and its colourful fishing fleet. Lobster rolls and chowder are the stars — arrive hungry.
Visitor Tip: Take an after-meal stroll on the Alma Beach, located just steps away…then cross the road to see the home of Molly Kool, the first woman sea captain of the Americas.
Stop 9: Old Molly's Bar
14 Beach Street, St. Martins, NB, E5R 1C7
Named for Old Molly, the steam engine that once ran between St. Martins and Hampton, this laid-back bar pours local craft beer and Canadian wines alongside customizable charcuterie boards and New Brunswick oysters — all in a warm, live-edge-wood space by the sea caves.
Visitor Tip: Take a night-time stroll on the beach and look up…waaaay up. Fundy-St. Martin’s is a Dark Sky Destination, making it a perfect place for stargazing!
Stop 10: Sussex Ale Works
600 Main St, Sussex, NB E4E 7H8
A small-batch brewery whose craft beers are hand-forged on-site with locally-sourced grains and ‘wild yeast.’ The cozy taproom is a favourite spot to unwind and refresh after a day of Fundy exploring.
Visitor Tip: From the Ale Works, take a short walk to Leonard’s Gate in the heart of downtown Sussex. Peruse the murals in this event and community hub, and on Fridays enjoy the offerings of a vibrant Farmer’s Market from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, May through October.
Stop 11: Gasthof Old Bavarian Restaurant
1130 Knightville Rd, Knightville, NB E4G 1E7
Stepping into this restaurant feels like stepping out of time. Feast on authentic Bavarian fare served "gate to plate" — the restaurant's schnitzel, sausage, and cuts of meat come from the family-owned farm just down the road. A hearty, traditional way to cap off your explorations through the pastoral beauty of the Fundy Foothills region.
Visitor Tip: The restaurant is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 10:00 pm, with last seating at 8:00 pm.
